P is for planting! It's finally acting like spring, although there will be more frosty nights, I can hardly wait to be planting things in my small garden. We already have little recycled salad containers in the windows acting as mini -greenhouses. Sprouting seeds are so simple and basic on one hand, and totally amazing and magical on the other.
To me, it is pretty incredible what one small seed can become. The growing process is as fun to imagine as it is to do. Anyone can grow something if they want to. A few wheat berries will grow grass in just a few days, something fun to do to celebrate and decorate pots for spring or Easter, or just to give your house cat.
Even things like the stem from romaine lettuce, or the tops of carrots will sprout new growth and are fun to watch. We give our carrot greens to out pet rabbit & hamster, the new lettuce leaves we ate! Everyone can grow something, be it on a windowsill, in a container garden or a plot in your yard - give it a try if you never have, you just might be surprised!
I found, via Pinterest, an idea for green onions that are bought from the store. So I tried it. Take the "root ends" and place them in water...new onion stems will continue to grow! I've had mine sitting by the kitchen window for two months now and have cut them back four or five times! So nifty! :)
ReplyDeleteLove gardening! It's amazing to care for plants as they grow then feed the hungry.
