Q is for Quilt

Ride for the Cure Quilt

Q is for quilt and my lovely friend, Ann who makes them. Quilting has been one of Ann's passions for  long time now, she began her creative life with fabric back when we were in elementary school, still playing with those stuffed Frederick mice.

She is a generous soul, putting hours and hours of work into gifts for family and friends and after much prodding, she does make a few for hire. She helped me when I wanted to make a quilt out of bandannas in high school (it looked great, but bandanna material doesn't hold up well as a quilting fabric).

Ann made a great farm animal themed quilt for us when  Scott & I got married, and adorable baby quilts when each of our children entered the world.

We have a ball traipsing off to fabric stores, laughing, joking, venting, making snarky comments; she in the midst of actual projects, me just hoarding fabric along the way that catches my eye ( full of good intent, but lousy follow through, the earth will shake if I ever complete one of these projects).

One year Ann made a fantastic quilt to be raffled off to raise money for the Susan G. Komen VT ride for the Cure, we were both thrilled someone I knew won it & know it is well loved.

This year, she took pity on me, and we went through the fabric I had been collecting, and she made quilts for my children for Christmas - they are wonderful, and full of things representing each kid. Tools, tractors, animals, blueberries, trucks, motorcycles, Boy Scouts on one and birds, fairies, ostriches, goats on another (believe me there is more on both).

It amazes me I still have this great friend, that I met in kindergarten, whose quilting skills have evolved into the creation of beautiful art pieces, that not only literally keep every member of our house warm, but warm our spirits with the care and effort she puts forth so they match specific people.

Q is for quilt, and I feel lucky to have several in my home. Thanks AMA :-)
